C792 hdmi csi 4k

I have ordered blindly C792 HDMI module. Geekworm C792 HDMI to CSI-2 converter module with HDMI loop out supports I2S audio output for Raspberry Pi 5B/4B//3B/Zero/CM5/CM - AliExpress
I was hoping it will be like plug and play… It works but maximum resolution is fullHD.

Would it be possible to stream 4K (or less) with less frames per sec? I understand, there are some hardware limits related to 4k. For some people it would be nice to have a higher resolution and maybe less frames per sec.

P.S. This is awesome project! Respect!

The limitation is the Pi4 CSI lanes aren’t enough to support 4k, they can just barely achieve 1080p @ 50Hz, so 4k which is 4 times as much the resolution ie 4x the data would probably barely work at 10Hz, and I doubt that is a supported refresh rate by any real monitor.

A better option if you don’t need flawlessly crisp text rendering is to use a 4k to 1080p downscaler, but most of these work better at 30Hz or 60Hz, so would work better with the v4 mini or v4 plus that can do 1080p 60Hz.
